Hurricane Seminar: How Families Can Prepare for Season of Storms
DeFUNIAK SPRINGS - Hurricane Season begins June 1, and Walton County residents are encouraged to attend a free hurricane seminar Tuesday, May 27, 6 p.m., to learn how to prepare for a major storm before it hits our region. The seminar will be held at the Agricultural Center, 732 North 9th Street in DeFuniak Springs (next to the Walton County Fairgrounds.) Weather experts predict the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season to be quite active and that the United States has a better than average chance this year of being hit with at least one major hurricane before the season ends in late November. "This is why we are reaching out to all Walton County families with a free hurricane seminar," said Ofelia Murphy, coordinator of the Walton County Community Emergency Response Team based in DeFuniak Springs. "We can answer questions about hurricane preparedness kits, evacuation procedures, how to prepare your home while you may be away, and help with storm tips before Hurricane Season arrives." The free hurricane seminar will be hosted by the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a program of the Walton County Emergency Response Division. For further information, call Murphy at (850) 892-8065, ext.
