Burglary suspect: I was 'just plundering'
CRESTVIEW — A man caught cutting copper wire inside a home said he wasn’t stealing copper, just aluminum cans, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff ’s Office report.
Terry Lee Bofonchik, 28, of Florala, Ala., was charged Wednesday with burglary and possession of burglary tools after a sheriff ’s deputy found him cutting the wire in the home on State Road 85 around 11:30 a.m.
“The defendant stated he was ‘plundering’ through the property,” Deputy Brian Parkton wrote. “He stated several times he was ‘just plundering.’ ”
Bofonchik was holding steel wire cutters and carrying a Leatherman tool in his rear pocket, according to the report.
“He said he was not going to steal copper wire,” Parkton wrote, but admitted he didn’t know the owner and didn’t have permission to be on the property.
