Police investigate bomb scare in Laurel Hill
A Laurel Hill woman called authorities Wednesday after receiving a package that she feared contained a bomb, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office report.
She told police that the small envelope was from an individual who had told her in the past that he knew how to make pipe bombs, small package bombs and “that if he wanted to he could blow her house off its foundation.”
The envelope was placed on the ground in front of the house and the woman was removed to a spot on the roadway more than 500 feet from the house.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, fire departments, Hazmat units, EMS, the Eglin Bomb Squad and an ATF agent arrived on scene, the report said.
The Eglin squad used a robot to “enter the package” and render it harmless.
It was found to contain a non-threatening letter, two patches that had been torn off the woman’s motorcycle rider’s jacket and a list of plumbing supplies.
The woman was advised to seek an injunction for protection against domestic violence.
