Extension Teaching and Demonstration receives certified status
The National Wildlife Federation announces that the UF/IFAS Santa Rosa County Extension Teaching and Demonstration Gardens are now recognized as an official Certified Wildlife Habitat site.
Florida has the third most diverse wildlife population of any state. But rapidly growing
urban development particularly in coastal communities is destroying native wildlife
habitat. As our communities expand, we lament the loss of birds and other wildlife.
Certified Wildlife Habitat sites attract a variety of birds, butterflies and other wildlife
while helping to protect the local environment.
In order to become certified, a property must provide the four basic elements that all wildlife need: food, water, cover and places to raise young. It must also employ sustainable gardening practices or Florida friendly landscape techniques.
The Gardens are open to the public Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They
are located at 6263 Dogwood Drive in Milton.
