FWB Dog Daze

Waggy tails and wet noses will descend upon the park at Fort Walton Landing on Saturday, Sept. 27., when the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts FWB Dog Daze.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and in planned in conjunction with the American Kennel Club's Responsible Pet Ownership program.

The event is presented by PetSmart and Petland, and is planned and supported by a group of dedicated canine lovers. This popular event drew nearly 1,000 dogs last year, along with their humans, for a day of fun and activities designed just for dogs and the people who love them.

All well-behaved dogs over 6 months of age are invited to participate. Registration is necessary upon arrival at the park, and pet owners must show proof of current rabies vaccination. Pets must be on a solid, non-retractable leash at all times, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.

A $3 registration donation per dog is requested, and registered dogs receive a special goody bag with each donation.

The day's activities include:

  • Five Flags Square Dancing Dog
  • AKC Canine Good Citizen Testing
  • Agility and dog training demos

Contests include:

  • Pet costume contest
  • Pooch-Smooch
  • Mystery Mutt
  • Biggest & Smallest
  • Dog Bone Count

A special "Blessing of the Dogs" will take place early in the day's schedule, and a representative of the Working Dog Monument committee will present information about the completion of the first phase of the monument, which is located at The Air Force Armament Museum. FurEver Friends Pet Therapy Dogs will be on hand, and other events, demonstrations, and activities are being added to the schedule daily.

Vendors will offer an array of pet-related services and products, and vendor opportunities are still available by calling the Chamber at (850) 244-8191.

Sponsors for this year's event are:

  • Petland
  • PetSmart
  • City of Ft. Walton Beach
  • Northwest Florida Daily News
  • Cox
  • Radio stations Fly92, Wave 102, and Mix 103.1
