New Pistol Training Courses
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office, in keeping with Sheriff Johnson’s pledge to provide education and training in firearms and hunter safety for the citizens of Walton County, is pleased to announce a new series of firearms training programs.
These programs will be conducted at the Walton County Sheriff's Office Firing and Training Facility, located on Triple G Road, just off County Highway 1883. Those that take the Defensive Pistol Course Level I qualify for the Florida concealed carry permit. This course concentrates on safety and basic shooting fundamentals. Once a person completes Level I, they are then eligible for Level II, which concentrates more on home defense and other such issues as the Castle Doctrine. Aug. 18
Sept. 15
Sept. 29
Each course runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those wishing to bring their own weapons should bring a serviceable weapon and 100 rounds of good quality ammunition.
For those wishing to learn more about what to purchase, the Sheriff’s Office can provide weapons in the following calibers:

Costs for the courses is $25 to cover materials and practice ammunition. A written test is required as well as shooting proficiency.
In addition to the above courses, the Sheriff’s Office will be offering a hunter safety course in September. The exact dates will be announced soon.
