Bay Arts Alliance announces season
The Bay Arts Alliance is celebrating its 30th season this year with Sweeney Todd and a Drumline. The schedule for this season includes:
Oct. 7: "Sweeney Todd." The musical that inspired the Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movie, with an ensemble of 10 actor/musicians. When the infamous demon barber takes up with his crafty neighbor, Mrs. Lovett, the two embark on a plot to slice their way through London's upper crust.
Jan. 9: "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." In the Tony-Award winning musical comedy, six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. Audience members can become part of the action as on-stage spellers.
Jan. 28: " Drumline." The black marching band tradition comes to the theatrical stage. The production includes music of Earth, Wind, and Fire and Tower of Power along with contemporary hip hop and R&B.
Feb. 26: "Stephen Schwartz & Friends." The evening features Grammy- and Oscar-winning composer Stephen Schwartz, the creator of "Wicked," "Godspell," "Pocahontas," "Pippin," "Prince of Egypt," Disney's "Enchanted," "Children of Eden" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." Tony-award winner Debbie Gravitte and Scott Coulter will perform.
Membership renewal letters have been mailed with an Aug. 8 deadline. After that, unclaimed seats are available to new members.
