Swinging salute

PANAMA CITY - The Gulf Jazz Society will host a salute to jazz musicians Herbie Mann and Horace Silver at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Black Angus Restaurant and banquet hall.
   
The concert will feature pianist Horace Silver, performing pieces including "Song For My Father," "Sister Sadie" and "Nica's Dream." The two-hour program also will include jazz hits from flutist Herbie Mann, such as "Memphis Underground," "Swinging Shepherd Blues" and "Comin' Home Baby."
   
Other featured musicians are Sean Deitrich on piano, Lowell Hopper on guitar, Steve Gilmore on bass, Charles Pagano on drums, Stephanie Pettis on flute and vocals, Mike Stone, vocals, and Suzanne Stewart McDowell, flute and vocals.
   
Tickets are $12; $10 for Gulf Jazz Society members. For more information, call 235-1659.
