Woman in cell rescued by lawmen

SHALIMAR — A 40-year-old woman tried to hang herself Wednesday at the Okaloosa County Sheriff ’s booking station here, but lawmen were able to save her.

Tina Lynn Williams was taken to the emergency room at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and released by Wednesday night.

“I was working in booking when inmates from the cell area called for an officer saying, ‘She’s got something around her neck,’ ” a deputy wrote in a report.

Williams still had a pulse as rescuers freed her and she opened her eyes and ambulance was summoned, according to the report.

She apparently had been unable to talk to her husband the first time she called him from the booking station, the report stated.

When she asked to call a second time, a booking officer said she could try again in a moment. About three minutes later, the inmates were calling for help, according to the report.

Williams had been arrested for violation of parole in Escambia County.
