Boy accidentally shoots sister

The teenage brother of a 15-year-old girl accidentally shot his sibling in the forearm Tuesday afternoon with a .22-caliber pistol.

The teenagers, who deputies did not identify, were alone in their Bayou George home when the 15-year-old girl and her 12-year-old sister were looking at the pistol, according to a Bay County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The 16-year-old brother found the girls in a bedroom with the pistol laying on the bed. When he went to put away the pistol in his father’s room, it accidentally discharged, the news release stated.

The children’s father, Joseph R. Snowden, was not home during the incident and told investigators the gun was not loaded, the press release stated. Snowden was arrested and charged Tuesday with improper storage of a firearm, a second-degree misdemeanor, the press release stated.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released.
