John Sims Parkway lane shift planned

Eastbound drivers on John Sims Parkway will encounter a lane shift starting Thursday, Aug. 9.

Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the former westbound lanes between the Taco Bell location and Bayshore Drive.

The lane shift will allow construction crews to begin working on the new eastbound lanes and the median of the roadway.

The lane shift will remove the free-flow left turn from State Road 85 southbound to John Sims Parkway eastbound. This will require eastbound drivers on John Sims Parkway to stop at the traffic signal to allow State Road 85 traffic to turn left onto John Sims Parkway.

The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

The traffic shift is part of a $12.6 million transportation improvement project that is widening the parkway to six lanes between Bayshore Drive and Government Avenue, and improving the John Sims Parkway-State Road 85 intersection. Work on the project is expected to be complete early next year.
