Niceville road work delayed
NICEVILLE - The widening of West College Boulevard now is expected to run about a month behind the previously announced late-April completion.
While weather contributed some to the delays, the bulk of the problem has stemmed from a waterline marked in the wrong place, said John Bergschneider, Okaloosa County's engineer and project manager for the job.
"We've had utility problems that have really slowed up things," Bergschneider said.
The $1.6 million project includes widening and resurfacing roughly 7,900 feet of West College Boulevard. Additional work includes installing drainage pipes, curbs and gutters, and new sidewalks.
The road now is closed to through traffic from State Road 85 north to SR 85 south to replace a section of rough pavement near the Turkey Creek Bridge. That work is supposed to be wrapped up Friday, although possible thunderstorms Thursday and Friday could delay that.
After that is completed, the sidewalks, curbing and gutters will be installed. While the road will be open, Bergschneider said there will be some lane closures during that time.
He believed construction will be finished by the end of May or early June.
