Murder Case Reopened

folders

The Walton County Sheriff's Office is reopening a 10-year-old murder case after the accused was recently released from a Florida hospital.

The accused, Fred A. Mason, 45, of DeFuniak Springs, has been released into the custody of the Walton County Sheriff's Office following his release from the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee.

Ten years ago, on July 6, 1997, Mason was charged with one open count of murder in connection with the death of Lillian Mason. At that time, he was deemed unfit to stand trial and admitted to the Florida State Hospital.

With his release, the case has been actively reopened and charges have been filed. Mason is currently being held at the Walton County Jail.
