Lynn Haven Wal-Mart decision delayed
LYNN HAVEN - Wal-Mart's fate in Lynn Haven remains up in the air.
The Lynn Haven City Commission did not discuss a development order Tuesday that would allow Wal-Mart to build a store in the city. The company requested the issue be tabled until the board's April 22 meeting so more of its representatives can be on hand.
The commission was to vote on the order, which, if approved, would pave the way for the company to purchase 38 acres at State 77 and Chambliss Street.
Plans submitted to the city by engineering firms on behalf of Wal-Mart indicate the project will consist of a supercenter, as well as several smaller operations, most likely a bank, restaurant and general post office space.
The Lynn Haven Planning Board approved the development order for the project last week. The lone dissenting vote was cast by Judy Dickey, who voiced concern over the added traffic burden on County 390. It is estimated the project would generate 12,942 daily trips on the road. A traffic analysis for the development determined portions of the road would be over capacity because of the project.
City Manager John Lynch said the capacity issue falls to the state because the road is a state road.
