Student art exhibit mounted at library
To kick off the new year, the Crestview Public Library will show off its new art exhibition system with an exhibit of works by student artists.
The $851 picture hanging system was manufactured by AS Hanging Systems of Montréal and was a gift of the Friends of the Library. It can accommodate 17 full-sized pictures and more if smaller art is double-hung, said Reference Librarian Sandra Dreaden.
Dreaden’s husband, Art, and son, Cody, installed the system at the beginning of the month at no cost to the library.
“We can hang a lot of pictures of any size,” said Librarian Jean Lewis. “Our Friends are very generous.”
The January and February exhibition will feature artwork by award-winning Crestview High School artist Sophia Valverde as well as other student artists. Installation will be on Friday.
A reception for the student artists will be held Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. following the monthly meeting of the Cultural Arts Council at the library. The public is invited to meet the young artists and their instructor, Laurel Ziwicki, and view the fruits of their talents and labors.
The library is seeking artists interested in exhibiting their work utilizing the new system.
There are several periods available throughout 2008, Dreaden said. Call the library at 682-4432 for information.
