Man arrested for scamming elderly

MILTON — The owner of a golf cart repair shop has been arrested for scamming elderly customers, according to a press release from the state attorney’s office.

Thomas Marlin Williams, owner of Williams’ Golf Cars in Milton, was arrested Thursday for organized fraud, theft and exploitation of the elderly.

The state attorney’s office and the Santa Rosa County Sheriff ’s Office investigated after complaints from customers surfaced. The complaints alleged that Williams took golf carts in for service and then either sold them or removed and exchanged parts without the customers’ knowledge.

Many victims were elderly and depended on their golf carts for mobility, according to the state attorney’s office.

People who believe they were a victim of the crime or who have purchased a golf cart from Williams’ Golf Cars within the past two years, should contact Investigator Richard Furmaniuk or Investigator Jeffrey Shuler at (850) 981-5500.
