Giuliani to stump at Donut Hole
It appears former New York Gov. Rudy Giuliani will be the next presidential candidate to visit Okaloosa County in the run-up to the Jan. 29 primary.
Charlie Clary, Giuliani’s Northwest Florida campaign coordinator, confirmed Sunday evening the GOP candidate’s intention to stop at Destin’s Donut Hole restaurant Thursday morning.
Giuliani will make an afternoon stop Wednesday at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, then spend the evening in Pensacola, Clary said. Giuliani is expected to arrive at the Donut Hole about 9 a.m. the next morning.
“He’s just gonna stop in and visit,” Clary said. “I think a number of supporters will be there.”
Craig Otto, chairman of the Okaloosa Republican Executive Committee, sent out an e-mail Sunday night urging fellow party members to attend.
“The Democrats have been making a strong showing in Destin,” it said. “We need to show our strength...even if you are supporting another candidate, this will be good for the party just to listen.”
Giuliani will stop in Destin three weeks after GOP rival and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee made a whistle stop at Destin airport.
