Theft suspect: 'I will pull my pants down for you'
FORT WALTON BEACH -- A homeless man told a deputy he was fresh out of jail and earned his money selling crack cocaine. But he wouldn't admit to breaking into vending machines.
He's been charged with the crime anyway.
Henry Thomas Garza, 28, was arrested Dec. 22 and charged with possession of burglary tools, loitering and prowling, molestation of a vending machine, criminal mischief and theft, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrest report.
A deputy saw him walking away from two vending machines near Goofy Golf on Eglin Parkway around 6 a.m., when the business is normally closed. Garza was wearing dark clothes and a dark stocking cap.
As the deputy pulled closer, he saw Garza stop next to a pole and drop a tire iron with a worn end. He also had a fistful of 37 dollar bills.
When the deputy noticed Garza was wearing several layers of clothes, Garza said "I will pull my pants down for you," according to the report. When he did, he exposed a pair of blue jeans -- but in the nylon athletic pants he pulled down, the deputy found a glass crack-smoking pipe.
"Garza made the spontaneous statement that he is homeless and 'I sell crack,'" according to the report. "He continued to say that he has an addiction to crack cocaine and needs help."
Garza said he didn't actually break into any vending machine, but rather watched out for someone else while they did it. He didn't identify that person.
He said he'd been shown how to break into a machine by "someone," according to the report
