Freeport Regional Sports Complex opens

The July 4th weekend was a huge event in Freeport and Walton County. Not only the Independence Day weekend but also the Grand Opening of the Freeport Regional Sports Park at Hammock Bay.

The ribbon cutting was performed by Mayor Mickie Marse with Hammock Bay's developer Jay Odom and CEO of the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce, Dawn Moliterno. Marse said that he waited 15 years for the moment, and that the current complex was just stage one of the project.

Odom, developer of the 3,000-acre master planned community, Hammock Bay, donated 60 acres of land to the City of Freeport to build the Sports Complex. The current phase includes:

  • Baseball
  • T-ball and softball fields
  • 2 two soccer fields
  • Beach volleyball
  • Tennis courts
  • Basketball courts
  • Shuffle-board
  • Concession stands
  • Bathrooms
  • Locker rooms
  • Children's playground

The whole facility is floodlit for round the clock operation.
