The owner of an Ocean City mobile home was burned when he tried to extinguish a fire himself early Wednesday morning.

The owner, whose name hasn’t been released, refused to be transported for treatment.

Ocean City-Wright Fire Department’s Lt. Jeff Gardner said the fire at 914 Carlos Drive was “basically a total loss” with an estimated $25,000 in damage.

Fort Walton Beach Fire Department and aid from Eglin Air Force Base backed up three engines and a rescue unit from the Ocean City-Wright Fire Department.

The call came in just after midnight and firefighters were on scene through the early morning.

No other structures were damaged. It is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
