Fire erupts as Niceville man prepares dinner

NICEVILLE - A Niceville resident reported hearing two loud explosions before the back of his Pine Cone Cove home became engulfed in flames.

The man was preparing dinner and had initially decided to use a gas grill but then changed his mind. It is unclear at this time if the gas grill caused the fire.

“We can’t find an ignition source. That’s the problem,” said Niceville Assistant Fire Chief Tony Lohrman.

The state fire marshal will continue to investigate the cause of the fire today.

Four people were at home when the fire started. They were all able to get out safely.

The fire was reported at 5:42 p.m. and it was out by about 6:26 p.m.

The fire caused about $150,000 in damages to the home, according to Lohrman. The majority of the damage was done to the bedrooms, kitchen and back porch.

East Niceville, North Bay and Valparaiso fire departments assisted.
