Mixed martial arts fighters chopping down on Pensacola
“The Cage”, an eight-sided, fenced martial arts platform, will be the focus for the first all-pro Mixed Martial Arts matches planned by X-Treme Cage Fighting Championships of the South, on Dec. 8.
With 12 sets of professional fighters, including four contenders with two championship belts up for grabs, X-Treme Cage Fighting Championships is bringing top fighters to the Pensacola area. Many of the MMA fighters are from the Panhandle or within driving distance, but the Championship Fighters will be coming to Pensacola from out of state to defend their positions and win a champion’s belt.
For the uninitiated, MMA is a combination of Boxing, Muay Tau, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Grappling. Each fight consists of three five-minute rounds and is scored by three sanctioned judges. The fights are scored by strikes, takedowns and aggressiveness on a ten-point scoring system. The ISKA and the State of Florida Boxing Commission sanction the bouts at the Fairgrounds.
Presently MMA is the fastest growing sport in the United States, as well as the largest Pay per View event with average 300,000 to 500,000 buys per month.
This will be the first in a series of MMA events on the Emerald Coast of Florida. Not only will there be 12 memorable competitions, but also a ‘Cage Girls’ contest during the intermission.
Following the Fights, VIP ticket holders will stay for a great ‘After Hours Party’ with live music, and the opportunity to meet some of the fighters and Cage Girls. Tickets can be purchased at the company’s Web site.
Following on-line ticket sales, the gates will open at the Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds on Dec. 8, at 5 p.m. for walk up ticket sales.
