Fishing museum will catch your attention — hook, line and sinker
The Destin History and Fishing Museum is a continuation and expansion of the previous Destin Fishing Museum.
Its mission is to establish and operate a museum dedicated to education and scientific purposes that will preserve the history of Destin; where children and adults of all ages can sense the heritage and legacy given to them by the early settlers of Destin through exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on experiences.
Experience the feeling of swimming in the Gulf of Mexico with examples of fish caught in Destin displayed on 100 feet of wall space depicting the Gulf floor.
View a large collection of antique fishing rods and reels. The most unique is constructed of split bamboo with an original Penn reel that belonged to Ernest Hemingway.
See what life was like in Destin in the 1930s, before the arrival of electricity.
Enjoy vintage photographs of early Destin settlers, boat captains and their boats, beach scenes, businesses and more - and view the oldest seine fishing boat still in existence, the Primrose, built in 1925.
Visit the original Destin Post Office, adjacent to the property.
The Destin History and Fishing Museum envisions expanding its programs to include more exhibits, a lecture series, educational classes, demonstrations, a gift shop and birthday parties for children and adults.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its location, 108 Stahlman Ave., near the Destin Community Center.
Admission: Adult $5; seniors and military $4; children $3; children under 4 are free.
