Auburn Singers to perform at Destin Commons
DESTIN - The Auburn University show choir will sing and dance its way into Destin Commons' Center Plaza at 6 p.m. May 13.
Destin Commons is hosting a performance by the singer/dancers and musicians of the renowned Auburn University Singers, who are on their way to perform at Disney World and Epcot.
Composed of 36 singers and 10 instrumentalists, the group is under the direction of Dale Farmer. The group is making its premiere performance in Northwest Florida, home of one of its singers, John-Michael Roehm.
John-Michael is a 2006 graduate of Walton High School in DeFuniak Springs.
"I am so proud to return to my hometown area to show family and friends the professional talent of the Auburn University Singers," John-Michael said. "Our production is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser."
The audience will enjoy music from Broadway musicals such as "Hairspray," "Spamalot," "The Producers," "Miss Saigon," and many more. The sounds of Otis Redding, Earth Wind and Fire, Counting Crows, and more crowd favorites also will be featured.
Celebrating their 36th anniversary this year, the Auburn Singers have earned a reputation for their energetic performances worldwide. Since its formation in 1972, the song, dance and band group of students, has been in constant demand to perform for television specials, conventions, community concerts and various campus events.
The award-winning choir has taken its message of music and friendship to perform with celebrities such as Bob Hope, Anita Bryant, and the Oakridge Boys; appeared on the Jay Leno Show and Opryland USA; as well as many engagements all over the country and the world.
Destin Commons is at the corner of Mid-Bay Bridge Road and U.S. Highway 98.
