Five Teens Arrested for Vehicle Burglaries
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office arrested five teenagers over the weekend charging them in connection with a rash of vehicle burglaries in Navarre.
According to sheriff's reports, the teens, all age 15 and 16, allegedly broken into six cars on Coral Street and Everglades Drive early Sunday morning, taking numerous items including electronics, paintball guns, cologne, sunglasses, cell phones, jewelry, and money. One victim reported $3000 in cash taken from a vehicle.
All of the vehicles, reports said, were unlocked at the time of the burglaries.
Sometime earlier that morning, deputies approached four of the suspects outside a Coral Street residence. The teens claimed to have been playing "manhunt," a game similar to tag.
Because of the numerous burlgary complaints about the same time contact was made with the suspects, deputies talked with the owner of the home where the boys claimed to be staying. The resident, reports said, verified the boys had been staying the night at the home and had returned to the house around 5:30 that morning. The witness also claimed the teens had several items with them that did not belong to them.
The homeowner gave deputies permission to search the home, where many of the stolen items were located. A fifth suspect, reports said, had taken the remaining items to a separate location.
The juvenile suspects were arrested and charged:
Suspect #1, age 15 - Three counts burglary, one count grand theft, two counts petit theft
