Injured birthday cyclist now in fair condition

A Fort Walton Beach woman who was celebrating her 33rd birthday when her motorcycle was struck by a car is in fair condition, according to a spokesman at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Myria Jacobs, a 1993 Laurel Hill School graduate, was thrown almost 40 feet in the accident, which happened Saturday night at the intersection of South Street and Eglin Parkway.

News of Jacobs’ condition was a relief to friends such as Rhonda Varnum, who spoke briefly to her friend on Monday.

“I told her, ‘Honey, God was looking down on you,’ ” Varnum said. “I’m just so glad to hear your voice.”
