Unidentified body found in Paxton

PAXTON — The Walton County Sheriff's Office got a call Wednesday morning about the body of a man discovered in some woods near Paxton.

Deputies found the body of the black man off Pittman Road south of Paxton, said Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Bryan Maule. The body was not immediately identified because of its decomposition, he said.

The medical examiner in Fort Walton Beach will help identify the body, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Maule said samples of DNA and dental records will be checked to help the investigators.

Maule said deputies were investigating several possible leads into the man’s identity. The news release stated that the cause of death was unknown, but that there was no evidence of foul play.
