Once upon a time, the initials "M.M." had instant recognition: Marilyn Monroe. Mickey Mantle.

Well, this week we present M.M.M., not to be confused with 3M, the former Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co.

No, this is Madra Medina McDonald of M Public Relations. Last week, Ms. M let us know about the young men at YOLO Board LLC, based in Santa Rosa Beach.

Turns out Garden & Gun magazine has written up YOLO Board's Original Stand-up Paddle Board as the cover story in its September/October 2008 issue.

YOLO's product is listed as a "Best Toy" in "Best of the New South - 50 People, Places & Things."

Charleston-based Evening Post Publishing Co. publishes Garden & Gun.

The article states, "The paddle-surfing wave is sweeping up everyone from beach-going families to hardcore flats anglers."

And it also tells readers, "The 12-foot-by-31-inch YOLO (You Only Live Once) board is an excellent choice for a stable, all-around model, whether you're looking to shred frothy waves or simply take in the view while ‘walking' on top of a glassy inshore creek."

Nice phrases, no?

"We are honored to have been selected among the roster of influential people, places and things highlighted in the Best of the New South," Tom Losee, cofounder of YOLO Board LLC said in a press release.

Another local honor went to the Davis Love III designed Origins Course in WaterSound in South Walton County, which was voted "Best Golf Course."

Here's some background on those YOLO Board boys.

Losee and Jeff Archer founded the business in 2006. The company manufactures two types of boards:

One is the individually hand shaped "Original" YOLO. It is 12 feet long and 31 inches wide and was designed for all conditions.

There's also the YOLO Yak, a hybrid board which features a front bungee tiedown system, molded-in trifins, foam traction pad and front and rear handles.

Designed as a full adventure board, the YOLO Yak has a recessed deck to facilitate better stability for fishing, crabbing or beginner surfing.

The company also offers rentals, lessons, corporate and team building packages and a complete line of YOLO accessories. For more information, call (850) 622-5760 or visit www.yoloboard.com.
