Trash bash at Econfina Creek

YOUNGSTOWN - With the summer recreation season approaching, Bay County and B.E.S.T./ Friends of St. Andrew Bay will host the second annual Trash Bash on Saturday to spruce up Econfina Creek.

Volunteers will meet at Pitts Spring at 7:30 a.m. to launch their canoes and kayaks, with cleanup beginning at 8 a.m. Trash will be collected from the creek and surrounding areas until noon. A celebratory picnic, complete with live bands and prizes, will follow.

Advance registration is encouraged, and discounted canoe rental rates will be offered. Those not wishing to venture into the water can help clean nearby trails.

Econfina Creek is a popular recreation site as well as central inlet to Deer Point Lake, the area's drinking water source.

To participate, call Alice Guay, (850) 215-5590, or e-mail aguay.best@knology.net.
