Finz, a Sandestin fixture, closes to the public
Finz, an iconic structure at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort since 1983, will close to the public on Aug. 9.
Formerly the Elephant Walk, a popular fine dining restaurant, bar and nightspot for 20 years, the restaurant underwent a major refurbishing and name change in 2003 to make it more family friendly. However, many guests and locals continue to refer to the landmark as The Elephant Walk.
Colleen Kirsch, public relations manager for Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort, said Finz would continue to operate seasonally and for special functions, meetings and events such as weddings.
Kirsch said the restaurant is closing prior to the Labor Day rush - and officially, the end of the season - because bookings go down at the first of August due to the start of the new school year.
Kirsch admits the restaurant has seen a decrease in business due to new restaurants in the area popping up.
However, many of those new restaurants that are popping up are on Sandestin property.
Kirsch said resort guests would be referred to restaurants at The Village of Baytowne Wharf for dining. The Village is on the north side of Sandestin property.
"Finz will continue to be utilized," stressed Kirsch. "We believe it will be popular for group functions."
At another nearby restaurant on the resort, Nancy Stanley said Seagar's, located at The Hilton Sandestin, is stable. However, she said if Finz closes, it could boost business at Seagar's.
"We project a strong labor day weekend," said Stanley.
